Technology with the potential to slash the time needed for scanning passengers at airports could be here within the decade, thanks to a new research award. Dr Okan Yurduseven of the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, has won a Leverhulme Research Leadership Award. The £lm (US$1.3m) award from the Leverhulme Trust will enable Yurduseven to develop technology that he hopes will cut the time it takes to collect and process data through security scanners from 10 seconds to less than 1/10 of a second.
