Fleet reduction: Southeast Alaska salmon purse seiners have another chance to reduce their ranks.A referendum was set to run from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14, said a Dec. 3 federal notice listing the 315 permit holders eligible to vote."The referendum, if approved, will result in a loan of $10.1 million and permanently retire an additional 36 permits from the fishery," the notice said.
