While the overall number of fire-related incidents has been on a downward trend over the past decade, in recent years the UK has seen a slight increase with 167,1501 fires attended by the fire and rescue services in 2017 and 2018. Of that number, there have been 334 fire-related fatalities and over 3,000 non-fatal casualties requiring hospital treatment. According to Electrical Safety First Core Data, the majority of fires within England are caused by electricity and the misuse of household equipment or appliances.
