Within the context of a feasibility study recently ordered by a European manufacturer for the reduction of green-house gas (GHG) emissions in relation to the decommissioning of BF/BOF-based plants in favour of the use of DRI and EAF, Danieli has presented an innovative solution according to which Energiron ZR plants replace CH4 with hydrogen as a source of reducing gas to achieve minimum CO2 emissions. This solution requires only process modifications to be applied to any existing Energiron ZR plant, with no need for structural changes to the plant general layout.
