As the Director of SRTMI, how would you rate the importance of R&D in the Indian steel industry with special reference to development of indigenous technology in iron making, steelmaking and finishing lines? Innovation and continuous up-dation of technology are the two main drivers to achieve excellence, improve competitiveness, leadership and promote sus-tainability in any sphere of activity, and steel is no exception. The investment in R&D helps companies to minimize their capital expenditures and remain competitive by optimizing operating expenses. However, lack of focus on indigenous technology development and R&D efforts in India has made country to remain dependent upon external technological support for any Greenfield or brownfield project.
