AIIQ~(R) - New application forms of coenzyme Q10 with superior bioavailability for use in foods, beverages and dietary supplements

Q10 is a coenzyme of the respiratory chain located in the mitochondria. It enables transport of electrons and reduction of ATP, the main energy currency in cells. Beside its role in energy metabolism Q10 is an efficient antioxidant protecting cells especially mitochondria from free radical damage. In good health the body is able to make Q10 by its own and a deficiency of Q10 is uncommon. With advancing age however blood and heart levels of Q10 are found to decline. This decline has been associated with degenerative diseases of the heart, brain and nervous system. Q10 can therefore be regarded as a conditionally essential nutrient.
