Compact implementation of non-hierarchical analytical target cascading for coordinating distributed multidisciplinary design optimization problems

We present a novel technique for implementing non-hierarchical analytical target cascading to coordinate distributed multidisciplinary design optimization problems. The proposed technique is based on i) representing the structure of the problem compactly, ii) segregating the coordination from disciplinary analysis and iii) defining a single collective penalty function to be used in all subproblems. This allows a general, flexible, straightforward and less error-prone implementation.
