Thanks to record-setting government aid, U.S. farm income this year will be the highest since 2013, according to USDA economists, offsetting the impacts of a trade war and pandemic. The bulk of USDA payments have flowed through stopgap programs like MFP and CFAP with a short life span. USDA farm payments, running at two or three times the usual level, would shrivel to the usual $10 billion to $15 billion a year in 2021 without a new infusion of money, and farm income would contract with it.
