The nature of sports turf consultancy has changed dramatically over the last 30 years for a variety of reasons. With the advent of industry wide accepted methods of assessing quality and safety of sports turf (eg rotational traction, surface hardness,soil moisture), target values for checking quality of turf began to emerge in the 1980s. These types of assessments, and the numbers they generate, have become more and more standard in the groundskeeping world. For example, rotational traction measured in Newton-meters and surface hardness measured in gravities.
