International Study Tour on Fertilizer Distribution and Handling: India-Singapore-Indonesia

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is organizing an International Study Tour on Fertilizer Distribution and Handling to India, Singapore and Indonesia from 29 April to 11 May 1996 to develop management, professional, and practicalskills and to enhance the experience of those responsible for planning, operating, and developing physical distribution systems in order to make the best use of available resources and to ensure timely availability of fertilizer to the farmers. In the developing countries, where individual farmers generally need relatively small amounts of fertilizer, products are supplied in bags. The distribution systems for these bagged products are often perceived as high cost and low technology. However, many suchsystems are efficiently operated and are also the most appropriate for the particular conditions. It is possible, however, that significant efficiencies could be obtained by improving existing technology and by the introduction of new technology and ideas.
