Maplin, Toys R Us, House of Fraser... the list of high street names facing administration, company voluntary arrangements or store closures grows longer each week. It looks like UK retail is in crisis. Does it also mean crisis for retail logistics property? David Thame investigates Just a few years ago single-price retailing was The Next Big Thing. Retailers like Poundworld - offering a range of household goods at a single, predictable price-point - were expanding fast. To meet demand from 200 new high street stores they launched a new 524,000 sq ft distribution centre close to the M62 at Normanton, Wakefield. It opened in 2016 on a 30-acre site close to junction 31.
