Purposefulness of more intensive supporting milk production in conditions of dispersed agriculture of southern Poland.

Milk production has been abandoned by a large number of small-to-medium sized farms in southern Poland in recent years, mainly due to low profitability and difficulties in reaching income parity. This article considers changes in milk production and profitability in the region with regard to the current system of EU payments and intentions of the Polish government to provide additional financial support for small-to-medium sized dairy farms. Reasons why additional state subsidies are economically and socially justified are highlighted.
