The common woody plants in Roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus Desmarest, 1804) habitat in Kainji Lake National Park, Nigeria

摘要

Roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) is the most magnificent antelope of the Nigerian Savanna (Rappold, 1987). Road antelopes are primarily grazers but do browse during the critical periods of the year when fresh grass are not available which is common to most ungulates. The conservation status of this antelope is becoming rare in its habitat due to habitat destruction and over exploitation (Kingdom, 1982). Therefore, there is a need to find out the habitat preference of this animal in it natural habitat. Therefore, this study tries to look at the habitat structure in its range in Nigeria (Kainji Lake National Park).
