MEPs to discuss EFSA board member candidates

MEPs will look over the curricula vitae (CV) of the 11 candidates that the Commission has put forward for a single place on the European Food Safety Authority's Management Board at this week's Strasbourg plenary. The successful candidate will replaceDiana Banati, who resigned last May when chair of the Board to take up a controversial position as executive director of the International Life Sciences Institutes European division, ILSI Europe. As such the post will only be until the end of Banati's term which is 30 June 2014, EU Food Law reports. However, the successful candidate could apply for the mandate to be renewed for another four-year term. Other candidates among the 11 could also be placed on a reserve list to replace any other Management Board members that are unable to complete their term of office -either the other six whose term expires in 2014 or the seven members appointed from 1 July 2012 that will serve until 30 June 2016.
