EU poultrymeat exports to slow sharply, alleviated by domestic uptake

Of all the mainstream meat proteins, only poultrymeat is expected to experience increased consumption this year, according to the latest European Commission Short Term Outlook report - but that growth is limited to less than 1%. The report sees consumers absorbing an extra 0.8% of poultrymeat compared to last year, taking it to an average 23.5kg per capita this year, once again mainly thanks to a higher domestic demand fuelled by relatively cheap availability. Net production in the EU is expected togrow slightly, by 0.6% to 12.3 million tonnes in 2012 and by 0.7% to 12.38mt in 2013 compared with the years before.
