Leading poultry industry bodies in the US are renewing calls for a World Trade Organisation challenge against South African anti-dumping duties, after rival chicken exporter Brazil announced a similar move last month. In a letter to US Trade Representative Ron Kirk last week, the National Chicken Council and USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USPEEC) urge the US government to "match Brazil's commitment to its industry", by filing a WTO case against anti-dumping measures imposed on US chicken nearly 12years ago. To strengthen their case, they call on the US government to support Brazil as a third-party in its case if Brazil agrees to reciprocate and support the US in its case. "Based on recent communication we have had with our Brazilian counterparts, we are confident that Brazil would welcome a coordinated effort by the US in this matter," the letter notes.
