Hunger tops agenda as major global survey coincides with FAO, EU policy initiative

The launch of the International Food Policy Researchi Institute (IFPRI) Global Hunger Index (GHI) last week coincided with the announcement of a new joint UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), EU policy initiative designed to combat food insecurity. The IFPRI 2012 Global Hunger Index (GHI) revealed that global hunger has declined since 1990 but remained "serious" while the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and FAO Director-General Jose Graziano da Silva agreed to increase co-operation in a bid to address food scarcity.
