Commission slams poor GMO data from member states

EU data on the economic benefits and social impacts of GMOs (genetically modified organisms) is as limited as the bloc's experience of cultivating biotech crops, according to a scathing analysis from the European Commission. Brussels slammed memoer states last week for failing to provide useful objective data and instead using the exercise to reaffirm their own preconceptions about GMOs. The report on socio-economic impacts of GMO cultivation was demanded by member states in 2008 in order to underpin discussions on whether to open up the EU market to GMO seeds; however, the report relied on data supplied by the very same member states.
