摘要

In this work, the kinetics of the oxidation of potassium ferrate(VI) with ethanediol and propanediol has been studied in alkaline media. The reaction was investigated by using spectrophotometer in the temperature of 25 to 45 degrees C. All data were obtained from the pseudo-first order reaction. It was found that the reaction was the first order for each reactant and Fe(VI). The observed rates constants (k(obs)) increased with increasing [reductant], however, increasing [OH-], the k(obs) decreased and the reaction was negative fraction order with respect to [OH-]. Moreover, the reaction had no salt effect. The reasonable mechanism has been suggested to explain the experimental data. The rate constants of the rate-determining step and the thermodynamic activation parameters at 298.2 K were calculated.
