USDA raises estimates for wheat, maize and soyabean

The USDA has increased its estimates for global wheat, maize and soyabeans in the 2013/14 season in its latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report.In its first update for 2014, the USDA increased the forecast for world maize output to 966.92 million tonnes this season, up from 964.28mt in December and 862.95mt in the 2012/13 marketing year.The projected rise comes despite a downgrade in US production to 353.72mt from 355.33mt previously. Harvested area for US corn (maize) has been by raised 436 000 acres, but the estimated yield is lowered 1.6 bushels per acre to 158.8bu/ acre.
