Conditions look favourable for bumper global wheat harvest this year

A combination of acreage adjustments and more favourable weather conditions leading to improved yields in North America and the former Soviet Union has led to an upgrade in prospects for global wheat production. MDA Earthsat Weather (Cropcast) raisedits forecast for world wheat output to 686.2 million tonnes, up 12.2mt from last week. This brings it in line with the International Grains Council estimate of 687mt this year, 33mt higher than in 2012. Rains remained abundant across the central Plains in the US last week, which further eased drought conditions there. A few additional showers are expected over the next few days. Meanwhile, drier weather across the northern Plains is favouring spring wheat drydown and early harvesting and rains should remain limited there this week.
