Welcome rains improve moisture levels for global wheat crop

Favourable weather increased the pace of spring wheat, soyabean and maize planting in the US and Canada last week, while rains improved moisture for wheat in Europe and Australia. Rains favoured the US southeastern Plains last week with only a few light showers noted in the far northern Plains. The drier pattern in the northern Plains allowed spring wheat planting to progress well but moisture shortages increased further in the west central and southwestern Plains. Dryness also allowed maize and soyabean planting to increase considerably. However, with rains building again planting is expected to slow a bit, especially in south central and northwestern portion of the Midwest. Maize planting should progress well in northeastern areas.
