UK retail watchdog to have powers to fine supermarkets

A UK retail watchdog designed to enforce fair practices within the food supply chain is to have powers to fine retailers, the government has announced. Jo Swinson, the Parliamentary under-sec-retary of state for Business, Innovation and Skills, said the Coalition had listened to the concerns of stakeholders in giving the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) greater powers. Swinson said: "We have heard the views of the stakeholders who were keen to give the Adjudicator a power to fine, and recognise thatthis change would give the Adjudicator more teeth to enforce the Groceries Code.
