Russia rejects grain export ban; state stocks released

Russia does not need to limit grain exports this year and government stockpiles are sufficient to prevent prices from rising too much in the local market, according to the country's agriculture minister. Drought and excessive heat across much of Russia has severely impacted grain production this year and there were concerns in some quarters that the country may consider a ban on exports, as it did in August 2010 when harvests were last seriously affected by adverse weather conditions.
