摘要

Cycling is an excellent form of exercise for over-weight/obese children and adults. Cycling can be done indoors or outdoors and the intensity of exercise is easily varied by changing speed and/or terrain. It is also a non-weight-bearing exercise, making it easier on lower extremity joints (e.g., knee and hip). A key consideration for prescribing cycling for physical activity/exercise is to make sure the equipment that is being used is adjusted properly for the individual. In particular, the seat height and handlebar reach/height should be set properly. The seat should be set so that the knee is approximately 25 to 35 degrees from full extension at the bottom of the pedal stroke.
