Infrastructure Matters

The importance of infrastructure for an economy and its support to all other sectors of the economy has made infrastructure the backbone of any economy and has a cascading effect on other industries. During the budget, India's Minister proposed the need to address pressing concerns regarding the lack of investments in the sector, and in order to boost the sector, also proposed certain drastic and innovative mechanisms to revive the sector. The Finance Minister proposed to exempt investments by sovereign wealth funds in infrastructure projects. Prominence has been laid on the development of India's solar power generation capacity and at the same time there is an attempt to assuage the present financial condition of various Discoms. Also, for the transportation sector, they proposed around INR 1.70 trillion will be invested in 2020-21. Thus, the focus is on improving connectivity.
