In early 2018, Royal Dutch Shell Pic became the owner of U.K. energy provider First Utility, and the first major oil and gas company to offer broadband internet service. In March, the new business unit, Shell Energy Retail Ltd., also switched 700,000 British households to 100% renewable electricity. In 2019, the company intends to roll out a range of smart home offerings, including thermostats and electric vehicle (EV) charging.
