High-intensity focused ultrasound for localized prostate cancer: initial experience with a 2-year follow-up.

We read this report by Challacombe etal. [1] with interest. The reporting of individual centres' experience with novel surgical therapies is an important part of health technology assessment, and the authors are to be congratulated on sharing their data. However, their report raises some points that merit discussion in relation to the development of high intensity-focused ultrasound (HIFU) in particular and the process of health technology assessment in general.
