The Reaction of o,m,and p-Toluyl Ghlorides with Ultrasonically and Thermally Activated Nitrobenzene II.Reaction of m-toluyl Chloride with Nitrobenzene

In the second part of this series,the reaction of nitrobenzene with m-toluyl chloride,initially subjected to ultrasounds and then heated for 40h at 210 C,was described.The main reaction products were identified and a possible reaction mechanism was advanced.In this reaction,fewer products were detected compared to o-toluyl chloride.Due to the fact that the methyl group is in unfavorable position,m-toluyl chloride shown a lower reactivity.The reaction mechanism also involved an electron transfer from nitrobenzene to acid chloride.
