The global tyre majors have made significant headway in the implementation of a sustainable natural rubber sourcing policy that aims not only at preserving the forests and the biodiversity but also at the long-lasting development of local communities and economies. The global sustainable natural rubber initiative received a big boost early this year with two tyre majors - Bridgestone and Goodyear - joining the league of four other leading tyre makers who have committed themselves to sustainable natural rubber sourcing. The others who have already announced the new sourcing policy are: Continental A.G., Group Michelin; Pirelli and Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd.
