Industrial Design Versus Engineering Design

If you are reading this article, you think and therefore you can design. Everyone has designed something in their life starting from infancy when you created your first crayon drawing or clay blob. However, designing products is far more complicated and challenging than creating clay blobs as a child. The millions of different products on the market have required designers to specialize in specific disciplines to effectively perform their jobs. Two major disciplines within the product design profession are industrial designers and design engineers. Each specialist adds an invaluable contribution to the successful design of a product based on two very different perspectives for how that product is designed. This editorial will describe each of these two perspectives, their respective significance and their effect on the success of a product in the marketplace.
