POWDER METALLURGY: FIRST INCREASE IN PRODUCTION IN THREE YEARS

METI reports that Japanese production of powder metallurgy products increased by 5% to 97,357t in 2017 (Table 1), due to higher demand from the automotive industry. Output of powder metallurgy machinery components, which account for 90% of the total, rose by 4% to 88,484t. This represented the first increase in three years. Machinery components are mainly manufactured from iron powder.
