Leaning in, Leaning On, or Standing on My Own Two Feel: Life experiences in academia and otherwise

My article's title was inspired by a 2013 book by Sheryl Sandberg, CEO of Facebook and one of the youngest female billionaires ever: Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. It encourages women to advance their careers by taking risks - or "leaning in" to opportunities. The book has received much attention, both positive and negative, regarding the advice it gives women on achieving professional success, and it prompted me to think about the impact of mentors and risk-taking in my own career.
