Mentoring Inspires Mentoring

Why did I become an agricultural and biological engineer? What was my motivation? ASABE Fellow Glenn Hoffmann "recruited" me. He invited me to his department for a visit and showed me the research that ASABE Fellow Jim DeShazer was doing. Dr. DeShazer was working on understanding animals and their environment. One study in particular drew me in, part of ASABE Fellow Hongwei Xin's PhD work. Dr. Xin was looking for differences in the vocalizations of sows. It was fascinating to see that a sow reacts with different sounds in different situations. That made me start to think about other things we could do in the animal environment. As a born animal lover, this really piqued my interest.
