Cut-flower production has become a top foreign - exchange earner, but doubts are being expressed about the industry's future. Kenyan horticulture is a non-traditional industry that mushroomed from nothing at Independence to generate exports of around100,000 tonnes in 2001. Valuable consignments of flowers are air-freighted daily from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with over 90 per cent destined for the European Union.
