Aortic stenosis restricts the blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta and also might affect the pressure in the left atrium. In the United States, 1 500 000 people have calcific aortic stenosis; 500 000 of those people have severe aortic stenosis, and 250 000 are symptomatic.
