The foreword of Elastography: A Practical Approach describes the imaging modality as one that "maps the elastic properties of soft tissue." Beyond standard anatomical 2-D imaging, elastography demonstrates a tissue's pliability, which could indicate disease manifestation or status and, in some instances, help a patient avoid a biopsy. The book covers the fundamentals of elastography, including proper techniques for imaging various body parts and the strengths and weaknesses of each approach; information for each organ system for which elastography has been approved; and some trial applications. It also includes tips and tricks, explanations of the usefulness of artifacts to obtain good diagnostic information, and how to implement and execute these examinations using different manufacturers' equipment. Thirty-five abbreviations and terms used in the book precede the text. The 2017 edition contains clear images, including color maps with scales and a descriptive caption.
