Early detection of breast cancer depends on the performance of the mammography equipment, the technologist procuring the image, and the radiologist interpreting the image. These 3 components of mammography affect image quality and outcome accuracy, which, in turn, affect patient safety, care, and satisfaction. To ensure that breast imaging processes are performed according to Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) regulations, a quality management program that monitors components contributing to patient safety, employee safety, and image quality is required.
