In August 2011, The Joint Commission advocated for the use of "safe and effective diagnostic radiation" and defined a safety culture as "the beliefs, attitudes, and values of an organization's employees regarding the pursuit of safety," further stating that "it is present in the organization s structures, practices, controls, and policies, which are used to achieve greater safety/'1 Simply put, establishing a patient radiation dose monitoring program can enhance patient care and improve patient safety. It also can demonstrate the facility's commitment to patient radiation safety and contribute to a culture of patient radiation safety excellence.
