In 1983,1 was 1 of 3 African American radiation therapy students in a room of 300 attending the Chicago Area Radiation Therapist Bowl. Attending the same conference almost 30 years later as a clinical coordinator, I observed the number of African American radiation therapy students was still fewer than 10. In 2004, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation classified the radiologic sciences as 1 of the least diverse health care professions, with less than 20% nonwhite workers.
