Screening and preparation of quercetin doped nanoemulsion: characterizations, antioxidant and anti-bacterial activities

摘要

The present study aims to prepare and characterize quercetin doped nanoemulsion (QTNE). On the basis of results of solubility, physicochemical interaction (FTIR, RAMAN, DSC-TGA and P-XRD) and morphological (FESEM) studies, CAP MCM NF and CR RH 40 were selected as oil and surfactant. In-vitro drug release studies showed that QTNE1 enhanced the release of QT for prolonged period of time and also the QT release from QTNE1 (58.82%) was more as compared to QT suspension (18.12%). In-vitro antioxidant (standard/modified ABTS and DPPH) and antibacterial assay showed that the antioxidant activity (AOA) and the antibacterial activity (ABA) of QTNE1 was significantly more than pure QT (p < 0.05). Optimized QTNE was found to be more sensitive against Gram-negative (G -ve) bacteria (E. coli and P. denitrificans) as compared to Gram-positive (G + ve) (B. subtilis and S. aureus) bacteria. The antioxidant and antibacterial assay revealed that the AOA and ABA of QTNE1 was time and concentration dependent. The results of the study indicated enhanced release, improved ABA and AOA activity of QTNE as compared to pure QT, without possessing any untoward interaction or incompatibility between the selected formulation variables.
