Portuguese energy regulator ERSE has asked the competition watchdog to investigate possible price fxing in the bottled LPG sector during the country’s Covid-19 lockdown. ERSE noted a widening of proft margins and price alignment among cylinder distributors during the restric- tions. Pre-tax proft margins for 11kg butane canisters, the most popular format for the two-thirds of Portuguese households that use LPG, reached a high of 84pc during Portugal’s state of emergency over March-May.
