摘要

Like in most of peri-volcanic regions, Mount Manengouba area has a great natural potential, favourable to the economic and socio-cultural development of the neighbouring populations, This potential gives rise to the installation of farming population that benefits from the high fertility of the volcanic soils. The increasing urbanisation in the area makes the population occupy the slopes and uneven dangerous zones of the volcano. This region is subject to undergo the primary volcanic and the secondary meteorological hazards. Volcanic hazards depend on the revival of the volcanic activity that can produce lava flows, pyroclastic flows and deposits, but also the emission of toxic gases from the volcanic lakes. Meteorological hazards, due to heavy rains and strong winds, are worsened by the steep volcano-tectonic topography and the unsteady nature of the terrains, in giving disastrous floodings, mud flows and landslides. The main sectors of natural risks are located in a thematic map of the Manengouba area. The aim of this work is to sensitize the local population and the authorities to the existence of these risks, and also to . indicate the preventive actions that can be taken to anticipate the detrimental consequences of their effects and to organize the evacuation of people.
