With the release of results from the September Quarter of 2017, a number of miners have reduced their 2017 zincin concentrate production guidance. Glencore is now expecting 1.105Mt (±15kt) of zinc from its operations overthe year, a decline of 25kt from previous estimations. The revision comes after lower than expected grades wereencountered at its Bracemac-Mcleod and Kidd Creek mines in Canada. Lundin lowered its 2017 guidance for itsZinkgruvan mine in Sweden from 80–85kt to 77–80kt. Lundin has reduced the guidance due to lower thanexpected zinc grades over the first three quarters of 2017. Trevali revised its 2017 zinc in concentrate guidancefor its Caribou operation in Canada to 36.7–38.1kt, 10% lower than previously forecast. The decline comes asthroughputs were lower than expected over the first three quarters of 2017. It isn’t all bad news for 2017, withMMG announcing that its 170ktpa Dugald River project in Australia is ahead of schedule and is targetingproduction before the end of 2017. MMG expects the operation to produce on average 170ktpa of zinc inconcentrate at a cash cost of US$0.68–0.78/lb of payable zinc for 25 years.
