Supply to Increase from Major Producers

Teck Resources has raised 2017 production guidance for its Red Dog mine in Alaska by 50kt to 525–550kt of zincin zinc concentrate. Teck attributes the higher production to changes in mine sequencing and improvedmetallurgical recoveries, enabling higher grade mill feed with more ore from the Qanaiyaq pit in the Decemberhalf of 2017. Expected zinc production for the next five years is put at between 475ktpa and 550ktpa. This level ofoutput is to be enabled by a US$110m mill upgrade project that is expected to be completed by late 2019 andshould lift throughput by 15% over the remaining mine life to 2031. Increased throughput is to offset lower gradesand harder ore from the Aqqaluk pit.
