After being one of the best performing commodities in 2016, rising 61% over the year to close at US$2,558/t(US$1.16/lb), the start of 2017 has been no different. Spurred on by the Chinese manufacturing sector, whichaccording to the Purchasing Managers' Index grew for the sixth month in a row, the LME zinc cash price closedJanuary 2017 at US$2,853/t (US$1.29/lb), 12% higher than the previous monthly close. With record banklending in China, AME is forecasting the zinc price to remain elevated in 2017, averaging US$2,508/t(US$1.14/lb) for the year.
