摘要

Research led by the University of Birmingham, UK, published in Science Translational Medicine, shows how a GLP-1 agonist drug, currently used to treat patients with type II diabetes, could be repurposed to treat raised brain pressure. Raised brain pressure is common in emergency situations such as traumatic brain injury, hydrocephalus and stroke. It is the cardinal feature of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), which causes disabling daily headaches and severely raised pressure around the nerves in the eye, causing permanent vision loss in 25% of people.
