The first thing that strikes you about Hawk House is the dramatic angled roof, designed to echo the peaks and valleys of nearby St Bathans Range. It swoops down to the ground at either end of the building, pegging it to the earth like a tent.Award-winning Australian-based architect James Stockwellcould explain how the roof shape is a Miura fold, invented by Japanese astrophysicist Koryo Miura; he could describe how the house incorporates passive solar design and how it needed to talk to its stark and beautiful setting in the Queensberry Hills, near Wanaka.
