Hands

For the past several years I have been going to a local manicurist. Recently, she retired from her practice, so now I am doing my own nails. While polishing them the other evening, I really looked at my hands for the first time in years. I saw a few cracked cuticles and multiple wrinkles, but what I marveled at is the flexibility and strength of these appendages. Yes, they have aged, and the finger pads are so smooth from years of washing that I have difficulty obtaining fingerprints for nursing licenses. But most of all, I was reminded of how important, and underestimated, these limbs are. Although my hands are personally precious to me, all hands are more than that.
