ANS Publishes Revised Standard on Nuclear Power Plant Simulators for Use in Operator Training and Examination (ANSI/ANS-3.5-2018)

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) Standards Committee has just published ANSI/ANS-3.5-2018, "Nuclear Power Plant Simulators for Use in Operator Training and Examination." The year of "2018" in the designation represents the year the draft was completed. Additional time was required to address public comments before seeking approval of the American National Standards Institute. Approved October 10,2019,ANSI/ANS-3.5-2018 establishes the functional requirements for full-scope nuclear power plant control room simulators that are subject to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulation for use in operator training and examination. This standard also establishes criteria for the scope of simulation, performance, and functional capabilities of nuclear power plant control room simulators but does not establish criteria for the use of simulators in training programs. The 2018 version is the seventh edition since 1979.
